It is my pleasure to welcome our four distinguished panelists to a discussion on Professional Development in the official launch of The Knowledge Loom: What Works in Teaching and Learning.
After presenting each panelist, we will ask each to post a brief position statement to help define and personalize his or her own views on professional development. We invite our visitors and other discussion participants to read the biography of each panelist, which can be accessed by clicking on the photo of each on the home page.
Our distinguished panelists are:
Dennis Sparks, Executive Director

Ann Arbor, Michigan
Shirley Hord, Program Manager
Southwest Educational Development Laboratory
Austin, Texas
Aaron Listhaus, Project Director

Thank you, all, for sharing your expertise and insight and for contributing to the growing body of knowledge on what works in teaching and learning.
I am Cathy Lalli, Program Planning Specialist for Educational Technology at the Northeast and Islands Regional Educational Laboratory at Brown University. I will moderate this discussion during the next few weeks, February 29 to March 31, 2000, by presenting a new question to the panelists each week. As they respond, the general audience is invited to comment and relate their own experiences.
Thank you for joining us.
