Topic: Technology Committees
Message: I have had very positive experience with large technology committees in my prior role as a Technology Director. It is key to select a broad base of stakeholders initially. The committees should be comprised of school administrators, teachers, computer coordinators, student representation, and community members. Community members should not only include business but those that are in town leadership such as finance and capital outlay. In my most successful technology committee experience after two years of large group meetings combined with sub-committee meetings, we were successful in obtaining 2.9 million for technology in our five schools. The entire committee of 25 met once a month and sub-committees of 5 met twice a month. Meetings alternated between breakfast meetings, afternoon meetings, and evenings. This positive support for technology in the schools took place when we were having many changes in central office leadership. I attribute this success to the support and advocacy of the broad-based technology committee.
