Posted by: Topic: Message: We survey our staff annually as to their self-assessment of technology skills. The survey is in two parts. The initial questions ask the teachers to rate their assessment of the level of importance of identified technological skills for students. The second round of questions asks them to self-assess their ability to assist their students in acquiring those identified skills. We then use a discrepancy model to identify our largest areas of need and use those results to structure our staff development activities.
In addition, our teachers expect that part of their professional evaluation system looks at the appropriateness of their technology-based activities. Teachers, who are identified through this process as needing specific help in utilizing technology, are given opportunities for specific staff development activities.
