Activities such as multicultural fairs are effective ways to bring together school communities. The effort and planning involved in such events can be actual learning situations for everyone involved. However, this is not the only means to celebrate the wealth of diversity that exists within a school community.

Exploring ways to include the cultural richness within the school can be institutionalized as an on-going portion of the curriculum. Ongoing multicultural activities within the classroom setting engender a natural awareness of cultural history, values and contributions. Instructional methods that are student centered, collaborative, and process oriented develop a supportive environment for members of all cultures. An awareness of differences as well as similarities draws the community together with a much better understanding of each other. These activities could also involve the community in important roles within the classroom.
