Topic:
Technology Offers Scaffolding for All Abilities

Message:
All over the US, teachers are challenged with teaching so that students meet standards. Whether we like it or not, standards are here to stay. I like to think of standards as moving us towards developing thinking skills and solving problems...knowing how and where to find information...rather than just a regurgitation of facts for the sake of a test. After all, the 21st century student needs different skill than we did!

Technology certainly leads the charge here! What better way to practice collaborative skills than working with a group of peers to solve a challenging Web quest? What better way to differentiate instruction than having the high ability students being challenged by an Internet project while others receive direct instruction? Most technology projects can be designed so that everyone succeeds -- at levels appropriate to individual students. Most offer the scaffolding necessary for all levels of abilities.
