Topic: Technology is Just One More Resource
Message: I say, everything in moderation...
Of course young students should not replace their blocks and paints with computers. Dittos, however, have long wasted our young students' time. Making the technology another center in a classroom with hands-on activities, creativity, and outdoor play deepens the learning experience. Our goal must be to make every child a success story. The degree may differ, but open-ended activities and extended projects are developmentally appropriate for our young kids today. Technology assists us there, and allows for the individual differences that exist in all. A technology project presented with a rubric for assessment or explicit directions for the levels of completion lets everyone succeed. In addition, online exposure to exports and other cultures offers opportunities some children would never otherwise experience.
