"Buy In" from Math and/or Science Instructors

Message:
As I have already mentioned in the four responses, (posted elsewhere on this site) much of what WE are doing is the result of school (district) and state desires to integrate what is learned in other subject-content areas into "our own" subject - content area. What we do with these leads is what makes it most interesting. As with many "new" charges form the top, people sometimes take their own spin to it for their own reasons. I, and many of my colleagues, have found it to be helpful to students learning. For many years we tended to teach math for math sake. Now I find myself striving to teach math for the future of the students. The ever popular question (When are we ever going to use this?) has become easier to answer by involving the students in the answer instead of just spouting out simple answers. This, done with reading and research help, has helped the students figure out that it is "not just for math sake". Again, this is aided in our system by our ongoing school inservice program as well as the current state goals and requirements for re-certification. Many teachers have found that getting involved satisfies, without extra effort, the states requirements as well as local yearly school improvement plans and district goals.
