I would introduce the unit with a power point on plants. I would have the students research plants on the internet and select one to write about. They would do a prewriting activity on their topic on "Kidspiration". After their work has been checked they would create a power point on their topic including explantions of the plant and its structure. They would have the option of present their project to the class. The more advanced students could read a short story or history selection which incluses some reference to plants.
They could also present their project to the class. Any student could work with a partner.
