If we really want to get more schools involved in a choice based art program, first I think we need to talk to the kids. What type of art do they like? Do they like when they are given projects? When they each make the exact same thing? Or do they like to have choices? My guess is the kids are going to want choices. It allows for freedom, experimentation and also makes them feel "grown-up".
Secondly I would survey the teachers. How do they like to conduct their class? Does the imagination, experiemntation and individuality of the children matter most to the teacher? If the answer is yes, then this should be a teacher open to choice based art.
Third, experiment. This new type of teaching may scare some at first. But hey!! Give it a try and see how it goes. After a few classes of choice based art ask everyone if they enjoyed it and especially ask why! Letting the kids have control over their education, certainly will motivate them to learn!
