I think that a choice based art program is definetly appropriate for children with special needs. Children get to choose what they want to work on in a choice-based room. The child with special needs will get to have the freedom to do whatever he or she pleases. Also with a choice based art classroom, the teacher may be more available to all students, especially the student(s) with special needs. While the children can work on whatever they please, the teacher is always available to check up on the children, and offer help when necessary. I think a student with special needs would thrive in a choice based art classroom. I really don't think that many modifications would need to be made. If they do need to be made, then they will be made by the child. When they are choosing what to work on, they are also choosing the level they want to work at. Therefore, the child with special needs can modify the project for their own level, and therefore succeed.
