Technology: Support for a New Venture

Message:

Building on my comments on professional development, teachers will need the same support as for all new learning -- time to learn the new techniques and how to incorporate them into their already well-structured practices, resources for training, time to plan with other teachers, latitude on the part of administration for that expected "implementation dip," and ongoing mentoring.

A set of exemplary resources available on the use of the graphing calculator and the Internet can be found in the ENC Focus issue on Educational Technology, found online at http://enc.org/topics/edtech/. Another prime resource is ENC's Digital Dozen, http://enc.org/weblinks/dd/, which offers a set of 13 selected sites for math and science teaching every month. Archived selections can be searched by topic or keyword.
