service learning

Message:
Traditionally, we've been a service learning school, and giving students a voice in the classroom is an important component of our philosophy. I think at the fundamental level, what we are really doing is saying that if we want to give students responsibility for their learning, we need to give them choices. And, service learning is a great program that does that. In any event, after two years of the small Kellogg Grant, Leavitt Area High School became a national leader school of service learning. We've had students that have pretty much traveled the country talking about service learning. As a matter of fact, three of them today are running a student summit, with about 400 students, and they are responsible for running the whole thing. So service learning has been a big part of enhancing student voice.
