A Planning Template and Exemplars:

Designing for Technology Integration

The resources listed below provide samples of technology-enhanced unit designs that take the four Good Models of Teaching with Technology (GMOTT) practices into consideration:

  • Standards
  • Assessment
  • Universal Design
  • Multiple Learning Strategies

A complete explanation of the GMOTT principles is presented on The Knowledge Loom (http://knowledgeloom.org/practices3.jsp?location=1&bpinterid=1163&spotlightid=1163).

Exemplars: Designing for Technology Integration

K-12 Literacy    [Download PDF]
Title: Elements of Fiction
Describes a one-hour lesson that is part of a larger professional development literacy seminar. It highlights how an electronic graphic organizer (Inspiration) and a limited number of portable computers can be used with students working in cooperative/jigsaw groups. Can be adapted for classroom use.

Title: Geographic Visualizations
Describes a one-hour lesson that is part of a larger professional development seminar. Uses technology resources to support an inquiry process and the use of visual information to understand key concepts. Can be adapted for classroom use. A related PowerPoint presentation is available for download.

Title: Mathematical Modeling: Eat Like a Bird
Describes a lesson that could be taught over one or two class periods in which students construct knowledge as they work in groups to investigate animal feeding behaviors. The lesson illustrates effective integration of technology with the use of Web resources, digital video, and a spreadsheet applet.
