As a first year teacher who entered mid-year, I have found that planning has been the most difficult aspect of teaching. I have always been an organized, "Type-A" individual, so it has been frustrating when my planning often comes down to the wire. Teaching with technology has been helpful in getting students more motivated because they often get excited when the opportunity arrives to use computers or other technology. They can quickly access information, share ideas, and find very creative ways to show me what they have learned. However, when my plans include technology, it is often a gamble that the technology will work without any problems. Very often, if an activity involves several days in a computer lab, my organized lesson can be completely de-railed if the computers fail, or the "network is down". I am quickly learning that although technology is a very useful tool, it all comes down to having a good back up plan.

Planning is essential. A good information technology plan that is assessed periodically is very important
