Lake Study: Software Program from the American Chemical Society
Students use a lab simulated computer program to solve a problem.
The problem is: Why are the fish in a lake dying?
To solve the problem students can examine the fish and sample the water for testing for pesticides, heavy metals and dissolved oxygen. They can then analyze their samples in a simulated laboratory, research for acceptable levels and can "talk to a colleague" for clarification. They tablulate their results and form a hypothhesis which they then test. Finally they develop a conclusion and report their resulsts.
