Author: Marilyn Power Role: Student Location: Quincy, MA Date: 02-21-05 A few days a week I babysit my two little cousins in West Bridgewater. The two boys, ages 5 and 3, are so much fun to be around and are always challenging me to come up with creative new activities for them. Inspired by some of the stories I read on Kathy Douglas's web blog, I gave them some assorted art materials one day last week and let them do their own thing for a while to see what they would come up with. I was amazed just watching them. Even though some of their creations didn't come out exactly as they wanted, the ideas that they came up with were so creative; things that even I, as an art student, would never have even thought to attempt. The five year old made a cute turtle puppet with almost moveable legs and tail. The three year old worked for about an hour and a half trying to get his drawing of a duck to come out right. When he showed it to me, I noticed that he had colored it in green. When I asked him why he made it green he said "Because I've never seen a green duck before and I wanted to see what it would look like." I was honestly very impressed with that. |
