What is it?
Adoption and implementation of effective practices requires continued learning. Therefore, the design of professional development must provide time to apply new ideas and, sometimes, must draw on additional outside expertise. Such follow-up and support ensures that professional development contributes to real change and continuous improvement.
Questions to Think About
- How do you organize professional development from outside resources to be
responsive to teachers' needs?
- When are teachers responsive to outside expertise?
- How can professional development help translate educational research and
theory for practitioners?
- How can evaluation data be used for planning delivering professional
development?
- When outside expertise creates dissonance with existing practice, how does
professional development support consideration and integration of the new
ideas?
