Julie Young is the Principal of The Florida On-line High School. She received her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from the University of Kentucky and her Masters degree in Administration and Supervision from the University of South Florida. Ms. Young is an accomplished presenter and is nationally recognized as a pioneer in K-12 Distance Learning Education. She recently received the United States Distance Learning Association 1999 Most Outstanding Achievement by an Individual Award for K-12 education. She has experience at all levels of K-12 education and focused her teaching years on interdisciplinary, project-based learning and curriculum design. Ms. Young has extensive experience in staff development and has managed a variety of instructional technology projects. More recently, she has focused on systemic change in the educational process and identifying ways in which innovative technologies may be used to influence and increase student achievement. In addition, she currently serves on several Distance Learning Task Force teams, including Governor Bush's Internet Task Force for the state of Florida. Ms. Young believes that a great school requires a great, interdependent team of collaborators. To that end, she has established a management philosophy for The Florida High School, which is based on two main principles: all students can succeed, and success is a team effort!
