Renee is beginning her first year as an "Art on a Cart" teacher at East Elementary School (K-5) in Sharon, Massachusetts (approx. 450 students). Renee is in the early stages of providing choice-based centers from a cart. Student feedback is positive. Renee Brannigan has taught in two choice-based elementary art rooms and observed in a third. Her experiences as a long-term substitute art teacher and her student teaching were both in choice-based art rooms. Renee has keenly observed how students work in and respond to the learning environments in which she has taught. In addition to her teaching, Renee recognizes the importance of interacting with other art teachers to gain insight about the successful learning environments they have established. This motivates her to interview other art teachers about their work and participate on The Knowledge Loom where she can learn from art educators worldwide. Renee received her Bachelors of Fine Arts degree in Art Education in May, 2002, from Massachusetts College of Art in Boston, Massachusetts. She and Knowledge Loom panelist, Katherine Douglas, her cooperating teacher during her student teaching, are collaborating on a book.
